about

THE BAND
It's not my revolution if I can't dance!
Dalai Puma are kind of an Indie Rock BandTM, but queer, nerdy and cute. The trio from Zurich can be clearly identified by floral patterns, animal prints, and an inexplicable weakness for unsmoked cigarettes, ping-pong balls and newborn kittens. All three thirds of the musicians sing and play drums, bass and guitar. The cumulative swarm intelligence of Ramón Oliveras, Franziska Staubli and Yannik Sandhofer can almost sing in French, quite a bit in English, and also in German. Geographically averaged, the resulting dialect of the three should correspond to the village of Rickenbach, which is not the case at all.
Dalai Puma take queerness, pop and fun very seriously for psychological, political and personal reasons. Cheerfully ignoring the concept of cost-benefit calculation, they celebrate shrill cuteness and plunge into the risk to mediocrity. And they do it pretty well!

THE ALBUM
'Ok Ciao Kakao' [ˌəʊˈkeɪ ͡tʃaʊ̯ kaˈkaʊ̯] sounds like a family-friendly washing programme with pre-wash, main rinse, and crease protection, but in reality it's like washing white laundry first with red socks and then with coloured cloths. And of course the debut album by Dalai Puma.
The songs are created in a grassroots approach with subversively anarchistic interventions, resulting in - for today's attention span of the common listener - astonishingly long recordings (longer than 2:28 minutes median) and sentences. The excessive length of the recordings is not at all noticeable due to the opulent, wasteful abundance of ideas, which provide some surprises. One is entertained and kept in suspense, because many lovingly intended and skillfully overlooked little details conjure up an uplifting glow in the face of the inclined listener. The album shows all the highs and lows at the same time, so on average it's mediocre, but in reality it's awesome. Dalai Puma only want to revolutionise by dancing. So if you need it right now, you can take the precaution of dancing along as excellent self-care. Because it's simply better to fight when you're fueled up! It is also possible to listen to the lyrics, which are laced with wordplay and nonsense. If you want to, you might even find a meaning in them, because meaningful and meaningless are known to be quite close to each other.
